The PHONANIUM website offers information on voice/speech production and advice for high-quality sound recording, aided by solutions for accessible analysis of acoustic voice signals. However, if the information (i.e., the texts, the videos, or the scripts/plug-ins themselves) in this website insufficiently illustrate anything related to acoustic voice/speech analysis for mostly clinical purposes, there is always the possibility to organize or follow a course on how to use the program Praat and PHONANIUM’s scripts (and sometimes also other acoustics-based programs) in the assessment of voice and its disorders. All items in our courses are based on scientific findings as well as long-standing and daily clinical experiences in acoustic voice analysis. A course provided by PHONANIUM can be customized to meet your specific needs and questions, depending on factors such as:
The main goal of this website in general, and a PHONANIUM course in particular, predominantly is “to learn participants to independently analyze well-recorded voice signals and interpret the findings of the acoustic methods”. To achieve that goal, one or more of the following modules can easily be implemented in a customized course.
MODULE 1 – Introduction to acoustic voice analysis
30 minutes
MODULE 2 – Sound recording in clinical voice assessment
90 minutes
MODULE 3 – Calibrating intensity level measures in voice clinics
45 minutes
MODULE 4 – Clinically fascinating facets of the acoustic voice signal
75 minutes
MODULE 5 – Hold on a minute … what about methodological aspects related to acoustic voice measures?
75 minutes
MODULE 6 – Speed-dating with Praat … basic functions of the program Praat
60 minutes
MODULE 7 – The “Acoustic Voice Quality Index” story … toward measuring dysphonia severity
90 minutes
MODULE 8 – WYSIWYH … what you see is what you hear, and vice versa. Spectrographic explorations in the peculiarities of voiced sounds!
90 minutes
MODULE 9 – From theory to Praatice … clinical voice acoustics with the program Praat on your own desktop/laptop computer
120 minutes
MODULE 10 – Toward a more user-friendly Praat with scripts and buttons
90 minutes
